Banana Cake

This is absolutely the best banana cake I’ve ever had! It’s supremely moist with Nutella frosting, tons of banana and chocolate flavor. Cuts and serves easily to bring to a potluck.

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup mashed banana (about 3 small ones)
  • 1/2 cup whole buttermilk or sour milk (* see note)
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 2/3 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup Nutella Hazelnut spread

Instructions
 

  • In a bowl beat butter and sugars at medium speed until well combined.
  • Add mashed banana, buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla and beat until well combined.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt,
  • With the mixer on low speed add flour mixture slowly and stir until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
  • Spoon batter into prepared pan. Bake until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. 35-40 minutes.
  • Warm 1 cup of Nutella in the microwave for 20 seconds until it is spreading consistency.
  • While cake is still warm spread Nutella over the top. Enjoy!

Notes

To make sour milk add 1 teaspoon of vinegar or lemon juice to milk and set aside for 5 minutes.
